Place Introduction

Gyoryongsanseong Fortress is a fortress built along the ridge and is known to have been built for the first time during the Baekje period. It is located in Gyoryongsan Mountain (518m) in Sangok-dong, Namwon-si. Gyoryongsanseong Fortress is believed to have been built by Baekje to prevent Silla from invading. The exact facts have not been revealed. However, the Namwon area is the Baekje area, and it can only be guessed based on the construction technique. This stone fortress has a total circumference of 3,120m. During the late Goryeo Dynasty and the Japanese Invasion of Korea in 1592, battles with Japan took place. In the fortress, there is Seongguksa Temple, which was founded in 685 (the 5th year of King Sinmun). Gyoryongsanseong Fortress is designated as a Jeonbuk Monument. The fortress area is a national tourist destination of Gyoryongsan Mountain, and many Namwon citizens visit it.
